The history of the creation of the first limousine

In our time, limousines have ceased to be something amazing, since we often see these cars on the streets of the city. They are rented for a variety of celebrations and events, and because of their configuration and appearance, they have long been associated with the words "luxury" and "comfort".

How did limousines appear?

The history of limousines is more than a hundred years old and originates from the small French province of Limousine. The shepherds of this town wore special hats, shaped like modern limousines. The first cars with a similar body type appeared at the beginning of the 20th century in the USA, and a little later their production began in the USSR. Such a miracle as a limousine was created by an engineer from the USA Henry Leland at the beginning of the 20th century. His country did not suffer much after the brutal war, but on the contrary, began to quickly enrich itself. This process increased the demand for various luxury gags, in particular for owning a personal car with a clerk driver, where the driver's seat was fenced with a soundproof partition. These cars were used by all sorts of bigwigs on business and political affairs.

Once Leland did an experiment, he took one of the cars off the conveyor shelf and lengthened it. So he came up with the idea of lengthening the body to increase comfort. His experiment was successful and after a while Leland began mass production of limousines. Like any class of cars, limousines have their own characteristics. First, it is an elongated and fully enclosed body. Secondly, there is a partition (often made of soundproof materials) in the cabin, which divides it in two.The interiors of these cars are made according to the tastes of the owner. Requests are even accepted regarding the location of the sofas inside. Perhaps the main charm of these cars is the rich technical equipment. It may include Internet access, bar, refrigerator, telephone, climate control, TV and other luxury items. And for those who are primarily concerned with safety, they can offer bulletproof glass and an armored body.

These cars daily excite the minds of car fans and encourage them to various experiments. There was a case when a team of mechanics created a limousine from three Zaporozhtsevs. This self-made model was called "ZAZnayka", with a reference to the original version of the car. Also, something similar was done and in America mechanic enthusiasts turned a Boeing 727 into a limousine. The car turned out to be quite working and even capable of accelerating to 200 km / h.

Naturally, not only enthusiasts today are inspired by limousines. Now there are a large number of professional tuning companies that are engaged in the creation of extraordinary cars. For example, one of the firms offers clients a project that will turn an army Hummer SUV into a limousine with a swimming pool and a mini-garden on the roof. But perhaps the most beautiful project is the Excalibur range of limousines, which includes all the aesthetics of the thirties, while being completely modern in technical terms.
